Life on the coast of British Columbia takes me and my imagination away to some of the most beautiful places and is the inspiration behind my work. You will often find me exploring woodlands and forests, walking along beaches and shorelines, looking up at the skies, counting the stars, searching for meaning, entranced by the beauty of creation.
As I spend time meditating on the beautiful world around me, it has helped me to face the things in my life that have caused me so much pain - that have made me feel so alone.
Experiencing loss has been one of those great challenges. Immersing myself in the beauty all around me helps me to look deep within myself and to re-focus, to look at the bigger picture and the things in my life and in my future that are the most important.
With each piece I make, I try to capture a little of the enchantment that I see in everything that surrounds me, to express my passion for life and for learning all I can about the world around me. I don't view my time spent immersed in my art as an escape but as a journey. Through it and by means of it, I can explore another world, imagine an incredible future, tell an amazing story. It's a way for me to search for something greater than me, to grow as a human being and to learn to always stay grateful.
In my drawings, the focal point is often the eyes which some refer to as "the window to the soul." This concept feeds my desire to understand the subject I am drawing, to study and to discern its behaviour and natural instincts, to imagine and to tell an untold story. The flowing lines in my artwork is meant to express free-spiritedness, constant flowing - like waves that ebb and flow on a shoreline. Shadow and light and the contrasts between dark and light - what we see and what is left to the imagination. This idea fascinates me.
My paintings most often depict landscapes that you will see along the beautiful coastline of British Columbia. Oceans that whisk you away to remote and rugged seasides, mountains and trees that serve as reminders of strength, are steadfast and secure. In coming collections I would like to capture, wildlife, rivers and lakes, meadows and flowers - scenes that serve as undeniable reminders of love and hope.
I am inspired to create art that captures the imagination, that captures the beautiful things in life, that takes the viewer along the journey with me and that adds a little spark of curiosity, and a little piece of myself.
I hope you enjoy my artwork as much as I enjoy creating it.
